Dundee is not on many first time traveler's agenda's for Scotland, so you're less likely to get some personal experience. Hopefully, someone will chime in. Even with my 10 trips, I've not stayed in Dundee. I've stayed in Angus, in Kerriemure to see J. M. Barrie house, but not Dundee. You might also consider posting on the Dundee forum on TripAdvisor if you don't get a response here.

I know Dundee reasonably well, my dear old mum is from the city and I visit there a couple of times a year but it is only an hour or so drive away for me.sorry really can't comment on hotels as I just don't use them in the city.

You might get more bites if you throw out a name or two as well. You can look on the Visit Scotland Accommodations site for something that catches your eye and ask about the specific hotel. A search on Dundee City with flexible dates brought up 6 hotels within a mile and some additional hotels that are further out. I see that one is Malmaison. I know people who have stayed in the Oxford version and liked it very much. Play around and see what interests you.

Malmaison and Apex are probably the best 2 hotels in Dundee, but be aware they're quite close to the large scale road/building works ongoing on the waterfront at the moment. There is a premiere Inn on the waterfront and a travelodge in town if you want a budget option. There is also the Invercarse, which has a nice situation in the W End and free parking, but it's a car/bus journey to the city centre.

There's enough to see in Dundee for a day or two's visit, probably not on a 1st trip itinerary, but perhaps before the 10th;-) When the much anticipated V&A museum opens I'm sure it'll be on a lot more itineraries!
