My husband and I have an early morning flight out of Edinburgh on our return flight to the states. This is our first trip to Scotland so we are not familiar with the options to get from the city to the airport. Should we play it safe and get something close to the airport or is staying in the city just as good. Any suggestions on hotels close to the airport if that is the consensus. Thank you!
Hi, rfarwell1,
The Holiday Inn Express and Doubletree are both close to EDI, and both have free shuttle service to the terminal.
A lot depends on how early your flight is, but if it's before 10:00 a.m., you'd be better off staying at the airport, and having a late night in town. That way, you won't have to rush around in the morning and have to worry about getting stuck in traffic on your way out to EDI. You can even sleep a little bit later to help get over that hangover you'll have from your last night in town. Make it memorable!
Slainte!

I think it will depend just how early your early morning flight is. There is an extremely efficient tram system from the airport to Edinburgh.
I would suggest the Premier Inn Edinburgh Airport

This is on the tram line and gets you the three miles to the airport in just a few minutes.
Premier Inns are comfortable, basic hotels with reasonable prices.
Thank you for the info. Our flight is 6:50am so the airport hotel it will be. Many thanks!
how early is your flight, you can get to the airport from anywhere in the city centre in less than 30 minutes,so just book a taxi for early morning.there are buses run all night to the airport.
I live on the south east side off the city ,the airport is north West and I can get to the airport in less than an hour using public transport
Hello
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at the airport very recently, and while there is a shuttle, it is not free of charge. There is a Hampton by Hilton within walking distance of the terminal building. Here is a link to the airport's own website with details of the various hotels. I believe there is a new Moxy hotel that opened recently (part of Marriott), which is also within walking distance.

Thank you for bringing this up! I have now switched to an airport hotel from the one I had booked in downtown Edinburgh. As my flight leaves at 9:00 am, I think this will be a wiser choice for me! I’m in happy anticipation mode for my April 29th RS Scotland tour. Appreciate the wise input here from you all.
We're staying at the Premier Inn the day we get in as well as the next day as it's so easy to get to town and the prices were a LOT less than the hotels in town as we arrive on a weekend! Will be staying there the night before departure as well.
I can recommend the Moxy. It's a 5 minute walk to the terminal/tram. We had a 10:40 flight and it was perfect for us (and easy to get into the city for dinner the night before).
Our flight from Edu was at the same time as your flight is leaving. We stayed down near the miracle mile the night before our flight. We had no trouble getting to the airport on time using a taxi. Our B&B owner scheduled an early pickup and the taxi was waiting for us outside the B&B and the drive to the airport was like 30 minutes or so, the fee was around $40 (good way to get ride of your extra pounds), and the ride was comfortable. My point is you can spend that last night down in the city where there are many sights to see and great restaurants and still easily make it to your early flight. I would have regretted just hunkering down in a hotel near the airport when it was so easy to use that last night in a great city atmosphere.
