We will arrive 4 days before start of Rick's July 13 days trip and I would love to ride but don't want to rent a car to drive from Edinburgh. I'm an advanced rider and hope to spend a few days in the saddle for some long fast rides. Has anyone done this within proximity to Edinburgh? Can you recommend a stable where they lead 2-3 hr tours?

I haven't done this but there are a couple of places you could try.
Tower Farm Riding Stables is on the southern edge of Edinburgh. According to their website:
From city centre by bus (Lothian Bus 7, 37, 47): leave bus at Liberton Cemetery stop. Walk away from town and take right turn onto Liberton Drive, approx. 5-10 min walk and you will arrive at stables..
Edinburgh and Lesswade Riding Centre is further out - about 6 miles from Edinburgh. Catch bus 31 from edinburgh and gert off at Lesswade Crossroads and it is about 15-20 minutes walk.
