Holyrood with Grandma

We (my husband and I) are combing a tour of Scotland with my nearly 80 yo mother. She's in good shape, plans to see family history sites, cut can't do strenuous hiking. If my husband and I take a couple hours to do the Arthur's Seat/Salisbury Crags hike, is there any place to "leave" her along the way. She's happy to hang out a couple hours, but I hate to just leave her at the B&B.

I think this is something best asked when you get to Edinburgh, asking the B&B person for advice. Edinburgh has a lot of things to offer that she might be interested in, and without knowing what you want to see together, when you are coming or exactly where you are staying it is difficult to give clear advice.

What would she be interested in seeing that you might not are about? There are a lot of sights to see and places to visit and I bet you won't be able to get to all of them.

  • Tour Holyrood. Does she want to know more about present day Scotland then a tour of Holyrood might be interesting.
  • Holyrood Palace. I love this palace and find the tour fascinating. If she's interested in Scottish history and Mary Queen of Scots in Particular this would be a great to spend some time. There is the gallery, which often has interesting exhibits, there is the palace, and then there are the gardens. She can wander around them and look and contemplate whether or not you've reached the top!
  • Royal Botanic Gardens--Does she like flowers? This wonderful place to visit and spend some time wandering. She can go in a taxi. There are tours or she could just wander.

Let me know what she is interested in and I may have some other suggestions.
