Which Hop-on Hop-off bus is preferable for older couple from United States, MacTours or City Sightseeing? We will have one day in Edinburgh. We have tickets for castle.
they are all run by the same company, a friend of mine does the tour guideing on them , the mactours are usually on vintage routemaster buses and the others on more modern buses, some have live guides some a recorded track.Routes are pretty similar but have a word with the folk selling the tickest on waverely bridge and they may be able to help you
I did the open top one a few years back, abiding memories are not of what we saw but the fact that we stuck it out getting drenched despite a golf umbrella. We were the only folk on the top deck, but we had paid for seeing Edinburgh from the top deck and by golly we were going to see Edinburgh from the top deck. Better memories than the whole rest of the trip!!
I found the Edinburgh HOHO Royal Ticket to be the best value. It covers two days of use on all four routes and includes entrance to Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Britannia.
Incidentally, I feel the Edinburgh HOHO buses are the only ones around that are actually useful for sightseeing AND transportation.
Thank you everyone for the input. We are going to use City Sightseeing. They run 2 hours later in the day. Although we won't have live commentary, the extra time will be nice. And we will remember rain gear.
