Historic Scotland sites closed

Received this email from Historic Scotland today;

As a valued Historic Scotland member we would like to advise you that as a mark of respect, all Historic Scotland sites will be closed on the day of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, Monday 19th September.
Sites will reopen as normal on Tuesday 20th September.

Thank you. Glad everything will be done and back to normal by the time I get there, but what an interesting time it would have been to be in Edinburgh right now.

I do feel bad about the people who have planned their trip, maybe sprung for the annual Historic Scotland pass and now find out places like Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle are closed. Maybe I'm heartless; I understand being closed the day of the funeral, but for this long seems silly and a lack of respect for the visitors.

Allan , yes you are heartless, God forbid that anything should be done to disrespect tourists.

Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and other historical sights are only closed on the day of the funeral. I appreciate it’s somewhat inconvenient for tourists that lots of shops, restaurants etc are also closed on the day of the funeral, but these closures are done as a sign of respect to the late Queen. I don’t believe this closure is silly nor shows a lack of respect towards visitors.

Remember people who normally work in shops, restaurants, museums, historic sites etc may want to watch the funeral too. How about showing some respect for them too?

As a tourist count yourself lucky to be in the UK on such a momentous day of our history.
