Does anyone know if you can joing hiking groups for the day on Isle of Skye and other areas of Scotland if you are traveling solo. I don't like hiking alone in the event of a fall.
Are you looking for a one off day tour to join/? If so you may be out of luck.
Several companies offer walking holidyas - Holiday Fellowship is one and gets good reviews. They offer one based around Glen Coe
Macs Adventure also do walking holidays on Skye.
I don't know of any hiking groups here in Skye, but I know of one guide who will take you on a guided walk in the less busy (but no less spectacular) parts of the island, with an emphasis on the physical geography (and history) of the island. He is Mark Purrett and his business is Skye Geography Tours. We have been on two guided walks with him, and also recommended him to our B&B guests, all of whom have been delighted with the hikes, and also surprised that it is possible to get away from the crowds! I know he'd be happy to take a solo traveller.
Similarly interested, but looking for "hike into hut" options. We're a family of four (2 teens) and trying to find spot we can hike into and overnight stay in a hut/yurt/cottage, self cater or B&B. Or a multi-day trail network of this sort. Thanks!
For hiking huts you might want to consider making your own post? We call huts Bothies here in Scotland and the Mountain Bothies Association website is your best resource for where they are located.
For trails your best resource is Walk Highlands website. You can search by area by clicking on the map of Scotland and walks are listed in ascending order of distance. There are symbols that grade the walks by difficulty and the distance and approximate duration is also given. Once you drill down into a specific walk/hike there is an indication of how boggy (wet/muddy) it's likely to be and also a star rating.
