There will be two of us in Edinburgh in August. Which Highland Games would you recommend with easy public transport? We would be interested in the heavy contests, bag pipping, dancing and agriculture.

This is the HG calendar- Stirling and Perth are both very easy to reach- Stirling especially-

It's a longer journey- a bit over 2 hours each way- but the Cowal Highland Gathering at Dunoon the biggest HG. You train to Gourock via Glasgow then the fast ferry over from the pier adjacent to the station at Gourock. A great way to arrive in delightful Dunoon.
The closest of them all to Edinburgh in August is North Berwick (note this is North Berwick, as in the seabirds; not Berwick on Tweed)
