Heathrow travel to London city airport

I’m arriving at Heathrow on September 8 and need to transfer to London City Airport for a connection. Previous connection from Heathrow to Edinburgh was canceled as many other people are experiencing. In checking travel options, I see several scenarios and wonder if anyone has a recommendation on one. All the scenarios I found so far, including on the Heathrow airport site, reference using Heathrow Express which of course goes to Paddington. Not sure why none of them reference taking the Elizabeth line from Heathrow except maybe bc its fairly new? A couple choices are from Paddington I can (1) take the Bakerloo line to Baker St., Jubilee to Canning Town, DLR to LCY DLR Station or (2) {stay on?} Elizabeth line to Custom House DLR station, bus from Custom House Station to Silvertown. If anyone has any experience or knowledge of routes, I would appreciate it. Thank you

Julie, my Heathrow to Edinburgh flight for July 25 was cancelled several days ago, and I rebooked to fly from London City Airport to Edinburgh. This is how I will transit:
Heathrow to Paddington via Heathrow Express
Underground: Paddington to Baker Street on the Bakerloo line
Underground: Baker Street to Canning Town on the Jubilee Line
Docklands Light Rail: Canning Town to London City Airport

If it is helpful, I would be glad to report how this works after I get to Edinburgh. Right now, I just want to get to Edinburgh on Monday!!! I'm not on very good terms with Heathrow and British Airways at the moment.

Although it involves an airport transit, I'm glad I decided to fly out of London City Airport instead of Heathrow. I heard today from a friend who flew into Heathrow about 10 days ago, learned after deplaning that her flight to Edinburgh was cancelled, and had a 13 hour layover at Heathrow, departing at midnight.

Thank you Elizabeth. I would love to hear how your transit goes. I’m also not too fond of Heathrow and British Airways right now, but I do understand why it is happening.

Thank you for the info Joe. I have thought about taking a car but do worry a little about traffic. I’ll check out the link you sent.

From Heathrow Terminals 2&3, you can take the Heathrow Express (15 minutes)

Catch a cab from there to the London City Airport.

You could connect to two more Tubes to get to the airport, but it's too much hassle.

David, take a cab from Paddington once we get there on the Heathrow Express? I have to admit I didn’t think about that but that sounds good. Thank you!

No idea if that is accurate, but doing the Heathrow Express and taxi looks like it could be more costly than the car service from LHR.

Depending on when OP arrives and how much time there is between flights, traffic may be a real concern and may tip the scales toward a rail solution.

Thank you Joe. Another site I will check out. My flight gets in to Heathrow at 10:30 and it’s 3 1/2 hrs before the connecting flight, which sounds sufficient but who knows anymore.

Six years ago I took a cab from High Street Kensington to London City Airport. It was 70 GBP. And traffic was mixed.

BA did the same thing to us in late May, except with Glasgow. I had a further LoganAir flight to Stornoway, so the risk of blowing the London connection and possibly destroying our itinerary was too high, so I switched from Glasgow to Edinburgh (both BA and LoganAir). Loganair's change fee was pretty hefty, but it let me sleep at night.

Thank you, gbrennan. I will check this out. More and more, I’m liking the idea of one method from point to point
