Are there any tour companies that do half day tours to Sterling Castle from Edinburgh?
We only have an afternoon free.
I don't know the answer about the touring companies, but this is something that you could do independently if you wanted to. Simply take the train to Stirling. If you don't mind walking uphill, walk up to the Castle. Otherwise, grab a taxi for the short (steep) ride. Tour the Castle and then return to Edinburgh.
I liked Stirling Castle better than Edinburgh Castle. I realize that this is just a matter of personal taste, but I think you will be glad if you make it there.
Hi, onlyme04,
Most of the Stirling Castle tours from Edinburgh are all-day tours. If you have just an afternoon free, your best bet would be to take a train from Edinburgh to Stirling, then take a taxi to the castle. There is a taxi rank outside the train station. You could walk to the castle, but it's about 25 to 30 minutes, mostly uphill. (Which does mean that it's downhill on the way back to the station.)
The trains to Stirling operate very frequently, so you'd have no trouble finding one which fits in to your plans.
Best wishes,
