Guided Walks in Edinburgh and Glasgow

We will be visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow in September and are looking for recommendations for guided walking tours in both of these cities. We enjoy history, architecture, music, street art, etc. and would be open to a guided walk "off of the beaten path." We're not looking for a private walk since we enjoy meeting fellow travelers.

We had a fabulous walking food tour in Glasgow. In addition to unusual and delicious food, we experienced a great deal of history, and architecture, particularly around the University. Check out The Glasgow Food and Drink Tour. It is a small, independently owned business and was truly a highlight of our trip.

There's a good Charles Rennie Mackintosh walking tour offered by the Mackintosh Center (possibly not its accurate name) in Glasgow.

You could look into Airbnb experiences - we've used them in Vienna and Prague and they were great fun. I am looking into them for Glasgow and Edinburgh - I had some all planned for our trip that wasn't to be in 2020.

This is who we used earlier this week. https://www.walkingtoursin.com/glasgow, I believe they are recommended in the RS guidebook. Honestly, it was good, but not great, but that could have been the guide who I thought was a but dull.

Hi, Lois,

I'm not sure about group tours, but for a great guided tour of Edinburgh, you could try Bill Hill at Edinburgh Guides. Their e-mail is [email protected] and telephone is 44 131 3570356. You're guaranteed to have a good time with Bill, especially if you have a good sense of humor.

The website is www.edinburghtourguide.com/bill-hill/

The same company also has a lassie who does Glasgow tours.

Best wishes and safe travels.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. The Glasgow Food & Drink Tour that Padams recommended was booked for the dates we are in Glasgow so I booked a tour with EatWalkTours. I think this will be a fun way to explore the city, learn about some history and sample some food. Allan, I think we will probably take the StreetArt Tour with the company you recommended which is also listed in Rick's book. Hopefully, our guide will be more energetic!
