Glencoe without a car

We will be spending 3 days in Glencoe. We would like to do some hiking. However we will not have a car. How can we get to the hiking trails from Glencoe Village? Also there seems to be some good lodging outside the village of Glencoe. How can we get around without a car?

Your question is rather difficult to answer without knowing which of the many, many hikes you might be thinking about. Here is a link to Walk Highlands website, which is the go to site for hiking trails. The answer to your question probably depends on how near the hikes you want to do are to the main road through Glencoe, which is the A82. There are buses that go along the A82. I don't know about local bus services, but Citylink run services from Glasgow to Fort William and beyond that use the A82. These are pretty busy long distance services and you would need to have a look at the various timetables and input some dummy journeys to see what might be possible.

There is also a taxi company that state on their website that they service the West Highland way, the long distance hiking trail from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William. They are based in Ballachulish, so very handy for you. I think it probably be worth you talking to them about getting you to and from the start and end of your hikes.

Personally, without a car I would be wanting to stay in Glencoe village or Ballachulish as there are places to eat there. There is also the very good Kingshouse hotel up on the moor above Glencoe itself. It's got a decent restaurant and a very nice bar area. Pricey in the tourist season though and very isolated without a car, although right on the West Highland way.

Hope that helps a bit.
