Still working on the itinerary but planning to spend one night in the Glencoe area early June. Was charmed by the Clachaig Inn but alas it is now sold out for my dates. Any recommendations? There are three of us (adults no kids) so likely need 2 rooms. Glencoe Inn and Isles of Glencoe Hotel are catching my attention. Main plan is sightseeing and taking in all that the area has to offer. Any recommendations?
There's this B&B which I know Rick has visited in the past although I don't know about their availability
There’s The Kings House, recently refurbished, at the head of Glencoe, and if you have your own transport then you could explore options at Ballachulish, Onich and Inchree between Glencoe and Fort William. While a little way from Glencoe itself, Fort William has a ton of accommodation. If desperate to remain in Glencoe there are two hostels in Glencoe, an independent one which I haven’t stayed at and the Scottish Youth Hostel Association one, which I have stayed at. The two hostels are basically next door to each other down the side road to the Red Squirrel camp site if memory serves. The SYHA hostel has small rooms - I’ve stayed in a twin room with my hiking buddy there and there are small four person dorm rooms which I’ve also stayed in. Not the Ritz admittedly but clean and cosy with a massive self catering kitchen, small shop on site and a heroically sized drying room which I suspect you wouldn’t find in many regular hotels.
You may not be able to stay there but a pint and a bite in the Hikers Bar at the Clachaig is always fun!
Hope you find something to fit your requirements.
Ian
A little further afield in Fort Augustus is The Bank House B&B. Lovely accommodations and a warm welcome from Sue and Ian.
Thank you all for thoughtful responses. I will check them out
We just stayed at the GlenCoe inn and Gathering and liked it a lot. Great location and very friendly/helpful staff. Food was good too.
We just booked Tigh Na Cheo, Garbhein Rd, Kinlochleven PH50 4SE, 7 miles from Glencoe for later this year. My wife has had a hard time finding places with 2 available rooms since we’re traveling with another couple. When you look at places, if you haven’t found one yet, maybe there’s a place with a family room similar to a suite with a couple rooms that might work.
Many places in Glencoe get booked a year ahead and June (and September) are busy with those not tied to school holidays. Fort William has a far greater supply of accommodation.
If you can't find anything you like in Glencoe, Fort William is only 20 miles away. There are many attractive B and Bs along the road west of Fort William. You don't mention the rest of your itinerary, but many people are not aware of the little Corran ferry which offers an alternative route to the area west of Fort William.
We stayed at a wonderful B and B in Glencoe a few years ago called Strath Lodge. It's not far down the road from the Clachaig Inn. And of course, you must go to the Clachaig Inn for a meal.
