Glasgow train to London

I'm trying to book a train from Glasgow Central to London on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The apps and websites all say no tickets available, or all sold out. Today is June 18, 2024. Am I booking too soon, do trains not run on Sundays (I get the same responses for Saturday), or is there something going on in London that makes every resident of Glasgow want to be in London.

Our London hotel is near South Kensington. IF there was to be a train available in the morning, what London station would I aim for?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Tickets aren't available yet. I went to the Avanti West Coast (the operator of the train) website and they only have tickets through Sep. 10.

You don't have a choice of stations in reality. Trains from Glasgow arrive at Euston Station.

What website are you looking at for tickets? You should be using:

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk

It's the official website. Then buy from the train operator.

I think you're just a little too early. I can see tickets until 10th September and nothing after that. Wait a week or so and you should be fine.

I use https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/ for Glasgow - London tickets. You'd arrive at London Euston on a train from Glasgow.

Avanti are opening weekdays at 12 weeks out, but weekends at 8 weeks out maximum, sometimes less, even quite a bit less.

So I would not expect September 15 to be available until at least July 10, possibly later.

So.you are looking at around 3 weeks, maybe 4 weeks, until tickets are available.

If it transpires eventually that there is engineering work happening the best route may be on LNER, travelling on Scotrail to Edinburgh, then LNER.

But in September if it follows the normal pattern LNER will be diverting via Carlisle. So just wait and see what transpires.

Avanti's reservations are only open to Wednesday 11th September for weekdays and the weekend of 17/18th August for Saturday/Sunday.

This is quite normal these days, I'm afraid you'll just have to wait a few more weeks if you absolutely must travel at the weekend.

I don't think there are any planned engineering works that weekend, but do check next week when the planned works calendar will show that week: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/status-and-disruptions/?date=20240907&operatorCode=VT
