Glasgow to Thomaston Castle near Maybole

I want to see Thomaston as it is a “family site” not much to do there just a picture but it is near Cozean ? castle more of a destination. I only have a few hours for the side trip from Glasgow is there any thing else I should see in the area e.g coastline? What would be the best way to do this?

Yes, Thomaston Castle is very close to Culzean Castle. Between here and Glasgow is Alloway, the birthplace of Robert Burns at Burns Cottage and the Brig o'Doon.

Thanks do you have a recommendation for the best hay to take a little circle tour? Is the coast worth seeing?

Roundtrip by car from central Glasgow to Thomaston Castle will be about 2½ to 3 hours depending on traffic.

Thomaston is on the edge of Culzean Castle. That would be a great stop stop if you have more time to spend. A quick stop at Dunure Castle Viewpoint would give you both coastline and castle ruin views. The Burns Cottage, if you have time on your way back to Glasgow, is also a nice stop.

I think I maybe said it the last time this came up, but Dunure is nice. I shot a video of the sunset from up on the hill just outside Dunure one evening years ago. About an hour of the sun going down over the sea and Ailsa Craig on SD miniDV on a locked off tripod. A friend of mine played it behind him on a cinema screen at a live performance of his music in Bristol. I didn't travel down to Bristol to see it unfortunately.

You used to be able to drive a car right down on to the beach (reasonably) safely at Croy Shore. That was another cool little place to hang out at sunset on a summer's evening. I don't think you're allowed to do it these days.

See also your other thread of 2 weeks ago on exactly the same subject, where good train alternatives were also given, with local taxis from Maybole or Ayr.

Ah yes Stuart that was the one I was thinking of when I replied to this one. I was going back through Robin's posting history when I was thinking of that bit of Ayrshire last night and replied to the wrong one.
