I tried to book a combined ticket for the train and ferry but nothing is available on either site so I am assuming that each ticket much be purchased separately unless much that I have read about one ticket for both. Anyone know about this?
You need to book separately. That said, Calmac has both the ferry times and the train times from Glasgow on their website, which is handy for booking. https://calmac.co.uk/summer-timetables/ardrossan-brodick
It used to exist, but the product was withdrawn about a year ago because it was causing capacity issues on the ferry, during a period of heavy disruption.
It is best to pre book even foot passenger space on the CalMac website.
In truth it was only ever the sum of the two fares, so offered no saving.
That applies to all Scotrail Rail/Sail products except to Belfast.
Further information has now come to hand regarding Summer 2024 sailings to Arran.
The issued timetables from Ardrossan to Arran are in the course of being amended as the 2nd route ship will not be available for the entire summer timetable period (she will be in dry dock at Birkenhead, Liverpool for substantial repair work).
One ship will run from Ardrossan to Brodick, and one ship (the chartered MV Alfred) will run from Troon to Brodick. A free transfer bus will be provided from Ardrossan Port to Troon calling at Troon Railway Station, or passengers can make their own way to Troon port where passenger facilities are now available.
In the event of heavy weather, when Ardrossan becomes inaccessible Troon will be used for both ships.
Sailings from Ardrossan to Campbeltown are cancelled for the second entire season.
So closely monitor the CalMac website for changes on your day of travel.
