Glasgow to Edinburgh

What would be the best way to get from Glasgow Airport to Endinburgh? We would like to spend 3 nights there and then pick up a car. Thank you

There is an inexpensive bus from Glasgow Airport into town. Runs maybe an every 15 minutes, pay driver. Stops include Queen Street Station (do not get off earlier at GlasgowCentral), about 15 minutes. Get ticket to Edinburgh Waverly, many trains, the fast train is just over 30 minutes. See schedule on ScotRail

There's no rail service to Glasgow Airport. There doesn't seem to be a bus all the way so your best route would be to get the bus from the Airport to George Square in Glasgow, and then get the frequent express train from Glasgow Queen Street (very close to George Square if not actually on it) to Edinburgh.

As Larry said, don't get off at Glasgow Central station. There are two major stations in Glasgow with no direct rail connection between them - roughly Central is for destinations to the south and south-west, and Queen Street for the east and north.

Anyway, it's easiest to take the bus to Queen Street (which is the station you need) -- you just stay on the airport bus until it arrives at its final destination at the bus garage. That way you don't have to worry about counting stops or anything. Then it's just a short walk to the Queen Street train station.

Thank you all. Not sure why but I thought with all the train routes there would definitely be one between the 2 major cities. Would it make sense for us to hire a car services to get us to the train station? Just thinking b/c we will have luggage? Thoughts please and thank you

Thank you so much. That is perfect. Then we would be able to take a train from the Queen City Station to Edinburgh?

Again Thanks

Yes, Cheryl, you are correct. You would take the 500 Express bus from the airport to Queen Street station, then take the train from there to Edinburgh. The trains run approximately every half hour, and the journey takes about 45 minutes.

Some trains travel through Falkirk Grahamston station; others travel through Falkirk High station. This should make absolutely no difference to you, unless you are getting off at Falkirk. However, if you take the northern route (Grahamston), you may be able to see the Kelpies from the left side of the train.

Best wishes for safe travels!
