Hi,
Looking to travel from Glasgow to Conwy. I know that Conwy is in Wales but thought since the trip will originate in Scotland….
Anyway, I am looking for the alternatives to a 5+ hour train ride even though that may be very scenic. If I were to fly from Glasgow and then train to Conwy, where would you recommend I fly into?
This will be in October and I’ll be leaving after 2 nights in Glasgow.
Thanks,
As far as I am aware there are no direct flights from Glasgow to Liverpool or Manchester (the nearest airports to Conwy). Train is by far the best way to get there.
There is no market for such short distance flights to Manchester or Liverpool. Even if they did exist it would be as long or longer a journey by the time you include to and from the airport, check in/security time, the flight then onward travel. It would still be a further 2.5 to 3 hours from either airport to Conwy. So overall it would be around a 6 hour journey time by air.
Wales has one commercial airport- Cardiff in the far south. That has Glasgow flights. It would be about 4 to 5 hours back north from there.
The other airport served from Glasgow is Birmingham, much further south. You are then looking at a c3 hour journey back north from Birmingham.
Use the hourly one change train service, which is also massively kinder to the environment than any such hypothetical flight.
Driving is no faster than the train for the 282 mile journey, and that is on a good day. On an average day driving would be slower.
FYI- I spent a few days in Conwy and just loved the place. The people are so friendly, especially if you compliment their dogs. Was in a local pub that had a smiling pub dog. I liked the castle as well. Have fun. We took the train from Yorkshire, England on that trip.
