I'm looking for a atmospheric fine dinning experience on my last night in Glasgow before returning home (Trip is in May). I would prefer a place known to the locals over a touristy spot, someplace with a varied menu of local cuisine in a unique space. Price is not an issue. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance!
I'm doing my research for my trip to Glasgow next month. So I've not eaten at any of these places yet.
These are recommended by Scotland magazine: Glaschu, 111 by Modou
And these are some that friends and forum members have recommended, but these are not as posh as the above: Ubiquitous Chip, Ardnamurchan, Kelp
Looking forward to seeing what else others recommend!
Hi, thomlyon55,
If you're looking for somewhere best known to locals, but rarely visited by tourists, I would highly recommend the University Cafe on Byres Road. It's definitely not upscale, but it was praised by Anthony Bourdain for its food and complete lack of pretension. The Cafe has been in the same family for over 100 years, so you could call it an institution. In addition to local cuisine, their homemade ice cream is delicious as well. Check out the reviews on the internet.
Bon appetit!

I was speaking to someone recently who'd been to Stravaigin, in Gibson Street. The last time I was there was over 20 years ago but it was good to hear they're still going and still somewhere nice. I'm not sure it's high end enough for you but it is very good.
As mentioned further up, The Ubiquitous Chip ("The Chip") is a Glasgow institution for good food that's still worth a visit.
