Does anyone have any recommendations of areas to stay in while visiting Glasgow? We will be utilizing public transport.
We stayed on the West End, north of the River Clyde, and very close to the Kelvingrove Gallery & Museum. We took a couple of taxis but mostly walked to things on our 3 night stay. We never made it over to the East End of the city, and were close to a Subway system station, but didn’t use the Subway.
I'd suggest doing your sightseeing research to see what parts of the city you expect to be visiting most often; that may be helpful. I chose to stay in the Premier Inn Buchanan Galleries. It worked well for me (I'm a walker), but it was close to neither the eastern nor West End sights.
The centre is the most convenient, since it's the hub of all transit. My sister just stayed at the Travelodge Glasgow Queen Street and loved the location. https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/593/Glasgow-Queen-Street-hotel
If the hotel is too basic for your needs, look at nearby hotels using Google Maps.
We stayed at Grasshoppers, kinda built into the train station. We found it comfortable, good breakfast, pleasant staff, and very convenient. We left our bags there while touring the city on the day we took the train out in the afternoon. We walked everywhere from there.
We haven't been yet, but through our research for a 3 night stay in June we decided on Motel 1 near the Central train station. We mainly decided on that because we have an early flight home and the hotel is a block from a stop for the airport Express bus. Plenty of restaurants in the area and it's no more than a 2-3km walk to the west side sites such as the Riverside Museum and Kelvingrove Art Gallery. The subway is nearby as well.
