Glasgow in late July

We will be in Glasgow for 3 days at the end of July and would like to find a reasonably inexpensive hotel/apartment.
What is the best way to spend 3 days in Glasgow?

I've stayed in a three different areas. Two were downtown--one up near the Art School and one near George Square. The third area I stayed was out in the west end. Downtown is access to railroads, some museums, the cathedral etc. The West End is near the University of Glasgow and so has great music spots. It's also near Kelvingrove and the Botanic Garden. It is an easy subway ride to downtown. I think if I were staying several days again, I would go out to the west end.

It will be interesting to see what others like.
