Glasgow...Day Trip From Edinburgh

Good Morning All,

I'm working on my itinerary for a September trip and I'm going to be in Edinburgh for four nights. I'm traveling by rail, so no car on this trip. Anyways, Glasgow looks like a unique opportunity and a bit of an anti-Edinburgh experience to shake things up a bit. I've got the RS "Scotland" book along with Lonely Planet's literature...all great stuff, but I'd like to hear about some of your personal favorites. Sites, restaurants, museums, shopping, food experiences...the whole chalupa. I'd like to get there early and leave late.

Thanks!!!

Honestly, Ed, if I had a day I wanted to do something out of Edinburgh, it wouldn't be to Glasgow. I would head up to the Highlands. Or a trip to Stirling Castle, Or any of the one day tours into the beautiful areas of Scotland.

As the resident Glaswegian I would say come over. Most people who visit Glasgow love it.

So recommendations. If you come in by train into Queen Street you hit one of the two angles of the city's main shopping streets. You also connect easily onto the subway, second oldest in the world after London.

Museums - St Enoch's, Kelvingrove, Museum of Transport, plus the NTS Tenement house, the Cathedral, are all easily reached.

Definitely Kelvingrove, and the Riverside Museum (formerly the Museum of Transport). Both are excellent - and FREE.

We were in Glasgow last summer and I don't know if it is always there - but we went lawn bowling near the Kelvingrove and it was really fun! A nice old guy that worked there taught us how to play.

We also really liked Topolabamba mexican restaurant and Kama Sutra Indian. The Pot Still pub was fun as well! Glasgow was a fun and friendly place to be. Also, the dads on the trip went to the Auchentoshen Distillery tour and loved it. (I probably spelled that wrong).

My friends and I will be in Glasgow for 2 days and are looking forward to it. Would like some good suggestions on where to eat and what to see/do while there. Realize there's not a lot of time but we'd like to make the most of it while we can. Thanks!
