Glasgow before RS Best of Scotland in 13 Days tour

We are arriving from London via train before the tour stars July 22. Anyone have recommendations for things to do, places to see, where to eat while in Glasgow for one day?
Anyone else on this tour July 22 to August 3?

We are coming from a few days in London before our September tour. Since we are already in the city, the train seems like a good choice to get to Glasgow(avoiding airports). How did you organize your train travel? Rome to Rio?

thommi01, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is wonderful and very much worth a visit. It was one of my favorite places in Glasgow. Another interesting site is Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis, which is a fascinating cemetery right next to the Cathedral. I loved walking around, seeing the interesting tombs and the unique layout of the cemetery.

I don't what all you are seeing on your tour, but a few other interesting places are the Hunterian Art Gallery and Mackintosh House. These are both in the same building on the University of Glasgow campus. You could also have a cream tea at the beautiful Macintosh at the Willow, which was originally designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for his wife. And there are the Botanical Gardens and the Tenement House, which I enjoyed.

bbclift, I would not recommend booking any train trip on Rome to Rio, or depending on anything you read there. For trains in Scotland, you can use https://www.scotrail.co.uk/. For trains from London, the best option is using Avanti West Coast, which leaves from Euston, although there are other options.

We booked tickets directly with Avanti West Coast. First class train seat for the 4.5-hour trip from London to Glasgow. Thanks everyone for your responses.

Yes, if you could tell us what you see on your tour, would be happy to make additional suggestions.

So looking at the tour it does a walk of central Glasgow and rides the Subway on Day 1. Then the morning of Day 2 visits the Cathedral, George Square and Merchant City on Day 2 before afternoon free time.
Day 3 Stirling Castle on the way to Oban.
The first thing I would do is take the HoHo bus on a general orientation complete circuit.
Depending what time your train arrives on Day Zero you should be able to do that on the same afternoon after dropping your bags at the hotel.
It is worth noting that the Cathedral you visit isn't strictly a Cathedral since the Reformation. It is still called such (including by the congregation) but is really the High Kirk of the Church of Scotland. The true (Episcopal) Cathedral is out in the West End- also worth a visit. I've been there for Christmas !morning mass. I assume, but don't know that it is open during the week.

It depends on your interest but the tour description sounds like it will be a short visit to Stirling Castle. I think it's worth a lot more and worth a day trip to explore. We spent almost 5 hours there.

I'd second Mardee's advice - if the tour doesn't take in these sights, I'd particularly recommend Mackintosh at the Willow and Kelvingrove (both for the grounds and the museum).

Depending on your tastes, I'd add the Pot Still - if you have any curiosity about whisky, I have found them to be incredibly generous and friendly at helping people navigate scotch for the first time. Also a huge fan of Mother India and/or the Wee Curry Shop (and Ranjit's Kitchen, but that's likely to be less convenient for you to reach).

Also a huge fan of Mother India...

Yes! I had lunch there on the day I visited the Kelvingrove, as it's not far away, and it was absolutely delicious!
