Looking for advice on the cheapest option to get from Glasgow Airport to city centre area. I know the express bus will take me for 8 pounds but I am interested in other options to save a bit of money.

The FirstBus service (route 77) runs from the airport to the Buchanan Street Bus Station, with other stops along the way. Your fare is four pounds 50 pence. You'll need to have exact change, and you can get the ticket from the driver. If all you have is a five pound note, you won't get any change back! It's a little over an hour to Buchanan Street.
That's the cheapest way, other than by Shanks' mare (walking) or hitchhiking. If you could get out to the on ramp for the M8, which is near to the terminals, you could hitchhike or hold up a sign with your destination. I'm not recommending it, but it's a possibility.

You can also buy a ticket at the information booth near baggage claim for international arrivals unless that has changed. This bus is really good. No one should pay for a taxi to the city centre of Glasgow! I just wish that we had as good a service in NYC. I have to take a bus to a subway stop to get home or to midtown. It's much better in Glasgow!
