If you only had time to visit one of these, which would it be? I know everyone has a different opinion, but I'm still curious to hear from anyone who has been to both. Because of our travel days and the Palace being closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, unfortunately we can only do one of these sights (Glamis in the morning or Holyroodhouse in the late afternoon). And I am so torn about which I prefer! 2 adults, no children. Thanks for weighing in!
They are both very different and I enjoyed both. That's a difficult decision. At the risk of sounding facious, toss a coin. If you are unhappy about the way it falls, that gives you your answer!
wasleys- Ha, that sounds exactly like something my youngest would do! She's constantly asking me to pick a hand or a number or do rock, paper, scissors to make a decision. I'm usually a fairly decisive person, so my waffling is making me crazy. Perhaps I will just do a coin toss! Thanks :)
Ditto what wasleys said. To me both were interesting as big houses go, but either is fine. Because of its location Glamis probably gets fewer tourists.
Hmmmm, that would be a tough one, it might come down to what sort of history lesson you want. I think Holyrood has a much more dramatic history due to the story of Mary Queen of Scots. Glamis was the home of the Queen mother and
is set in a beautiful location with lovely gardens, and I seem to recall a lot of pretty antiques, also.
