From Glasgow Queen Street Station, walkable to our accomodation?

We are traveling in early November 2023 in Scotland (I posted several months back)--me and my 30s something son and daughter. We have adjusted our itinerary a bit from that earlier post. At the airport, rent a car, stay 3 nights in Aberdeen and explore the Aberdeenshire area, stay 2 nights in Inverness, and we turn it in at the airport and catch the Scotrail train from Inverness station to Glasgow, Queen Street Station. We will stay 6 nights in Glasgow before heading home to the US. My question is at this point, we will have our checked bag-sized rolling luggage when we get off the train and we need to figure out the easiest way to get to our accomodation at 101 Maxwell St. in Glasgow. We will arrive at 16:07 to the station on a Sunday. Weather (i.e. wind/rain/cold) might mean it is best to catch a taxi than deal with public transportation. But I've never been there and hope to get some sage advice about this.

Also does anyone know if there will be food/drink on the First Class car? We have booked 3 Adult - Anytime Day Single (1st class) tickets. But it appears there are no assigned seats.

If it was a service that had catering you would get a bottle of water and a wee packet of shortbread.

The list of services with catering changes weekly but currently almost no services have catering on a Sunday, including that one.

You have probably booked too soon (greater than 8 weeks out) to get assigned seating.

You can add reservations (assigned seats) by calling ScotRail’s Customer Relations team on 0344 811 0141, selecting Option 3.;or visiting any Scotrail station (like Aberdeen, earlier in your trip).

You could have started your train journey at Inverness Airport with a connection into Inverness at 1203, arrive 1214. You still can- just buy singles at the airport station ticket machines.

To get much closer to your address you could take the Glasgow Subway (the underground, it is called the Subway) to St Enoch station.

One stop from Buchanan Street subway station- linked to Queen Street station via an undercover travelator.

Some Scotrail services have a trolley car, some don't. This website tells you which ones have them and it's updated every couple of weeks.

You get a free hot drink, a bottle of water and some shortbread. Other items are for purchase. You're better off buying food at the station. The trolley service is unreliable.

The first class sections of Scotrail trains are at the ends of the trains--usually. For all day tickets you might not get seat assignments. (I got one last week for a seat number that didn't exist.) But don't worry, unless the train is really crowded, you may be the only people in first class. It's happened to me a few times. I've also had first class tickets booked but no first class section on the train. (Last minute replacement train due to mechanical issues.)

It's Scotrail.

It's a short walk from Queen Street Station to that spot on Maxwell Street under normal circumstances. Google is telling me 13 - 15 minutes but I'd probably do it in less walking briskly. However, since you will have your checked bags you may want to take a taxi. There's a taxi rank by the side entrance of the station, it will be clearly signposted or a member of staff (or the public) will be happy to direct you. There's no public transport to cover that route that will make it any easier really.

I've never travelled first class on a train, so I can't advise on what to expect there. Complimentary food and drink is usually offered as part of the first class service to the best of my knowledge. I would have thought there would be assigned seats on a service from Inverness to Glasgow though? The train experts can comment below to fill us in.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Glasgow. Six nights is a good amount of time to take it in. You'll have plenty of time to fit in a day trip or two too.

That is sensible. It may indeed make it a little easier without having the expense of a taxi. It's not something I would usually consider doing for a short distance in town, so it didn't spring to mind immediately.

I would vote for the taxi. It's a short ride, you will have a larger bag, and sunset is about the same time as your arrival into Glasgow.

You should get 1st class on that train from Inverness. It is scheduled as a 4 car train- 2 x 2 car 158 sets, so two chances (1 on each set) of there being the advertised 1st class section.

It is more variable on the train in from Inverness airport- but that train is scheduled as a Class 170 turbostar, which is meant to have a 1st class section- it did last Sunday and has a 170 with 1st class allocated for today.
