Free Day in Oban

Hello Fellow Travelers,
We're taking the Best of Scotland in 13 Days with RS tours. Our first day in Oban is booked the next day free. Looking for recommendations for the 2nd day. My husband likes fishing; however, we're open to biking, hiking ,etc. Can't wait for your responses.

Re- fishing
Just wander round the harbour area, and the North pier - There are usually several companies who do on the spot bookings. One, Argyll Sea Tours, I see has a website and now does on line bookings.
If you want hiking, hop on the little Cal Mac ferry to Lismore where there is great hiking, about a 30 minute voyage.
That leaves from the slipway in the Calmac car park, not the main terminal for the big boats.
Or walk out of town or take the very infrequent bus about two miles south to Gallanach, where there is another little Cal Mac ferry to the Island of Kerrera. Your hotel will give directions and be able to tell you about bike hire. That one is a five minute crossing, and the South end of the Isle is a great circular walk, complete with ruined castle. Hopefully the little tea room survived Covid.
I'm sure you'd be able to hire ordinary cycles in Oban to take over to Lismore, Kerrera would definitely need to be mountain bikes, better walked.

There is a distillery there that has tours and a tasting at the end. Also, just north of town (but can easily be gotten to on foot) is the Dunollie Castle and Museum. Since you like hiking, a trek up to McCaigs Folly can also be done of foot.

Piggybacking on this, because if I don't get any of those early ferries tomorrow in Oban, I will need to find a place for dinner before the 8 pm ferry. Any suggestions?

Get the short boat ride to Kerrera - it's a great loop walk round the small island

I've always been in Oban either on half board, or eating on the CalMac ships.

On the rare occasions I've needed to eat in Oban I've used that fish and chip shop if it's the one on the crescent behind the Royal Hotel, round the corner from the bus tours enquiry office.
There are lots of restaurants on both Station and North Piers.

Another vote for the delightful Kerrera walk.
