Flight from EDi to Dublin

Yeah! We have our flights booked for September to Edinburgh and back from Dublin using United Miles.

Decided we’d rather fly back to US from Dublin instead of London for several reasons. (Need direct flight to SFO so we arrive with plenty of time to get airport shuttle home). We Haven’t been to Dublin since 2007 and would be fun to end our trip there and celebrate my husbands 65th birthday. Discovered that any miles flights out of Great Britain cost $200+ pp in airport taxes, but only $55pp in taxes out of Dublin. So the savings more than pays from 2 flights from Edinburgh to Dublin.

Aer Lingus currently shows flights for €101 pp from Edinburgh to Dublin(including a checked bag). Is this the going rate? Or should we expect prices to go up or down as we get closer to travel dates. Just wondering if a should book now or wait a few months.

Yesterday came across an automatic rental car for the same price as a manual with autoeurope. At least with Autoeurope, if prices go down I can modify reservation and get refund.

So excited for our return trip to Scotland and our Hadrian’s wall hike, Covid cancelled in 2020.

Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair offer nonstop flights between Edinburgh and Dublin.

Personally, I'd wait until after the New Year to buy tickets. Monitor the flights to see how the price goes. It's a popular route so the price won't go up that much. Especially if Ryanair is involved.

Lots of cheap flights to Dublin - you could also look at Glasgow or Newcastle. Could be less than £20 depending on the dates.

I agree with Frank, wait until next year. You may get a better price with Ryanair, but pay attention to the carry-on size and seat selection, etc. If I fly Ryanair, I typically check my American-size carry-on luggage. If you do this, then make sure you pay for the checked luggage when you purchase the ticket. Ryanair will charge a lot more for check-in luggage at the airport.

Thanks for the great advice and the Newcastle suggestion.

We were going to spend the night before flight in Durham, but it will be less stress to stay in Newcastle for a 10 am flight. And we can visit Durham after we drop bags at Newcastle hotel since it’s only a 15 minute train ride.

We've flown on Aer Lingus (nominally) between Edinburgh and Dublin, also Glasgow and Dublin and these Scottish cities and Shannon. Things may have changed, but our flights were on a partner airline, not actually Aer Lingus.

The planes landed far from the terminals, so that everyone had to deplane on the tarmac and transfer to a shuttle bus to be driven to the terminal. Thus, it was no advantage to be seated near an exit -- nobody went anywhere until the shuttle bus was fully loaded. I mention this because we had a fairly tight connection for our flight to the USA and we knew we'd have to go through USA pre-clearance, which takes extra time once you're inside the terminal. Since it was all booked on Aer Lingus, we felt reasonably confident we wouldn't actually miss our connection (or if we did, Aer Lingus would take care of us), but I think it's helpful to know what to expect when you land.
