We are planning this trip for end of August/early Sept. Will fly from PDX to LHR. Plan to spend at least a couple of days in London (I know - inadequate, but London is not main focus this trip.) My first question is whether it is worth taking the train from London to Edinburgh to see the scenery? Or just fly? After a couple of days in Edinburgh, we need to get to Inverness to start a tour and here I think a train to get from Edinburgh to Inverness makes sense?
The end of the tour will leave us in either Inverness or Edinburgh (our choice) and from there we want to get to Dublin to start another tour of SW Ireland. So is it better to fly out of EDI or INV? Maybe it doesn't matter.
Just looking for any general advice on getting around the Isles by plane vs train I guess. Like others who posted recently, I don't want to try to drive on the other side of the road. We are in our sixties and too old to retrain brain!
