Would appreciate your thoughts on my rough outline for our trip in August. Dates are firm as we are visiting following our daughters study abroad in Dublin and will be there a few days prior.
2 nights Edinburgh~ we have a tour scheduled and tickets to the military tattoo
pick up rental car, 1 night St. Andrews (my husbands only wish). Do we spend the night or do a day trip from Edinburgh?
2 nights Glencoe
2 nights Stirling~ I realize many may say this may not warrant a 2 night stay but we want to see Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and planning to go to Highland Games, which is why we need to go to Glencoe first.
Is it feasible to drive back to Edinburgh airport in the morning from Stirling to return the rental car and fly out?
Thank you so much for your help!

What time is your flight?, then respondents can take a view
Our flight departs at 8:55a on a Sunday
I wouldn’t want to drive back to the airport that time of day. A 9am flight means you need to be there a couple hours early. You then need to consider the time it takes to return the vehicle and the time the rental facility opens (can vary by company), and walk to the terminal. The drive itself is 30-40 minutes if you don’t make any wrong turns and there are no delays or construction. That means you’d be leaving Stirling by 5:45am. If you’re comfortable with that, then go for it.
Great advice! Thank you! Will likely stay close to the airport and return car day prior.

We did Stirling Castle as a daytrip from Glasgow, however, considering that 2 nights equals one full day, that's what you may need. We spent 6 hours at the castle.
If time allows, visit Doune Castle on the way from Glencoe to Stirling.
There's lots of other things you can add to Stirling. There is the Old Town Jail. The Church of the Holy Rude is well worth a visit and is where James VI was crowned. There is also the Wallace Monumentwell worth adding for the views from the top. There is also the ruined Cambuskenneth Abbey on the edge of Stirling.
