I've decided to drop Out Skerries from our itinerary due to the ferry logistics, weather odds, and my wife's weak stomach for long boat trips in open ocean and add a second night on Unst or a night on Fetlar. Fetlar could instead be a day trip from Unst or we could just spend more time on Unst. I think Hermaness and Hamar might suffice for missing Fetlar's walks. Fetlar has a dearth of lodging and evening happenings (except Sat) so a day trip is probably more sensible that overnight. Not being able to have a whisky or beer is unthinkable. Any personal experience or advice?
We spent a week on Unst and loved it. There is some very good walking there. We had hoped to get across to Fetlar for a day but the ferry times didn't work for us. I rather gather very few people go there. It's probably similar to Unst but even more isolated....
Thanks - I think that convinces me to stay on Unst.
The variable ferry schedule adds another layer of complexity to juggling LoganAir daily variations, B&B availablility, airfare - argh!!!
Plus the schedule itself is provided in the most unfriendly format, although it might be the best way for them.
The ferry timetable to Fetlar completely confused us too....
