Ferry to Skye

Visiting in Sept. Was planning on driving the bridge to Skye, then read about the Skye Ferry from Glenelg to Skye. Would you recommend the ferry? First time drivers-how is the drive to Glenelg?

I haven't taken it but would have loved to have taken it if it wasn't pretty far out of my way. Here's a link to the website that will give you the times and dates it is open. https://skyeferry.co.uk/times-fares/

Where are you coming from? The last part of the route there has some interesting sites to see along the way.

I assume you have found their website and watched the video taken from a motor cycle along the road? It's a well made road but very windy and fairly narrow in places. It is slow and the driver will need to concentrate but it isn't likely to be that busy (apart from passing traffic off the ferry...) . It is definitely an 'experience' and very scenic but maybe not for the faint hearted, or if you haven't experienced driving on roads like this before?

We detoured to Glenelg on our way back from Skye. We were looking for a tearoom for lunch. The drive was fine- not any different from other roads in Scotland. There was a nice tearoom and had a nice lunch. We also found one of the brochs nearby. We did not use the ferry because we were coming from Eileen Donan castle. It was a scenic drive not too far out of the way.

The ferry is a wonderful way to arrive or leave Skye. Check before you travel that the ferry is running - via their facebook page, website or the sign at the end of the approach roads at either side. They also take a lunch break!
