We are going to take a ferry from Ireland to Cairnryan next fall. What is the best way to get from Cairnryan to Stirling? Is there a car rental place right by the ferry? Thank you!

Has anyone gotten off the ferry at Cairnyan and rented a car?

There is (or was in June last year) Arnold Clark car rental at the P and O terminal (the ferry from Larne) which is about a mile closer to Stranraer than the Stena terminal (the ferry from Belfast). There used to be a rental car desk at the Stena Terminal but it is long since closed.
It is a portacabin just to the north of the terminal building, not actually in the terminal.
This location is not currently listed on their website (but wasn't last year either) so you probably have to call or e-mail them to pick up here.
Dumfries and Prestwick Airport (near Ayr) are the next nearest rental car locations.
The "best" way to Stirling from Belfast via Cairnryan may be the Hannons Bus from Belfast to Glasgow (which drives onto and off the Stena ferry with you on board) then train from Glasgow, or rent a car in Glasgow.
