I'm traveling to Scotland for the first time with my 2 sisters. We will be in Scotland for the last 2 weeks of April (yes, right around the corner and very excited). We arrive in Oban by train on a Sunday and I want to buy tickets for the ferry and bus rides to visit Mull and Iona for the next day (Monday). I have Rick Steves current Scotland guide book and I cannot figure out exactly where I buy a package deal which includes the bus and the ferry. It appears from Rick's guide that I do not have to worry about buying these tickets too far in advance unless in peak season. So, I have 2 questions. First, where do I buy tickets - the actual ferry terminal, West Coast Tours office, the Tourist Information center or other? I want to purchase the tickets as soon as we arrive by train (around 1PM). I've read that I can save money by buying individual tickets from all the various entities involved. I do not want to do this. I want "one-stop shopping" to get it over with and done (i.e., a package deal).
Second, is it safe to say that I do not need to book these tickets in advance? Should I be ok purchasing the day before?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Based on the description on pages 244 & 256, I'd go to the West Coast Motors tour office. There should be no need to book any further ahead and you probably want to check the weather forecast before you do. Luckily, all of these offices are open Sunday and are about 2 blocks from each other.
I've got my answer - just go to West Coast Tours office. I was on their web site last night but for some reason could not find this tour. The link is exactly what I need. Thank you so much!
