Ferries from Scotland to Ireland

I will be staying in Edinburg in August. I am considering taking a ferry to Ireland.
Any thoughts ?

Sounds like a nice idea. Ferries vs flying is always a question of time and whether you consider the journey part of your vacation.

Is your next destination in Northern Ireland? Ferries go from Cairnryan, Scotland to Belfast. It's about a 4-hour bus or bus/train ride from Edinburgh to Cairnryan. A train to Holyhead usually takes more than 6 hours before catching a ferry to Dublin. See more route and combined Sail/Rail ticket info at www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/SailRail.

Flying would be faster and usually about the same price (assuming that you book early for either type of transport). See www.skyscanner.com.
