Fallkirk wheel

We did the Wheel several years back, it was enjoyable. Interesting also was walking up above the tunnel to view the remaining earthworks of Antonine's Wall. Did this by train from Waverly to the Camelot Station, which is also on the line from Stirling. Walk about 1.3 miles. Do not know how to add the Kelpies to this.

While I love the idea of Camelot Station, it is really Camelon, although you don't give your mode of transport.

My view is that you really should watch the wheel and ride it, and yes it is totally worth the time.

The Kelpies are the other side of Falkirk. The whole point of them is that they represent the heavy horses which drove Scottish Agriculture and Industry for so long. Specifically they are in the Canal because they represent the horses which used to tow the boats along the Canal, before engines. The Canal was built as a very industrial canal- the motorway or freeway of it's age.

Thus the best way to get there is the walk of around an hour along the Canal from the top of the wheel.

The two very different sites are really linked together, two parts of the same story.

There is also a regular bus from the wheel into the centre of Falkirk, change there for another bus out to the Kelpies.

I’ve been to see the Kelpies a couple of times. And also the wheel. And the Antonine Wall. All are interesting and very cool! My understanding was that the Kelpies represented a mythical shape shifting horse creature from some old Scottish folklore, but I’m not 100% certain on that.

Also, If you are able to visit the very old but well preserved small town of Culross right in that general area I highly recommend going. It’s a nice place to walk around and a good stop for lunch. Parts of Outlander were filmed there if that interests you.

I rode the wheel. It was interesting and I would do it again.

Unfortunately, my eyes were still on soft focus when I typed that and I missed the autocorrection to Camelot. Do I still get points for the rest of the legwork?
