Falkirk Wheel tour before Best of Scotland tour

I am considering the Falkirk Wheel private tour for our arrival at the end of June. On Trip Advisor, I only see the one at $568 for 1 to 4 people., which is a lot for 2 people, I think. It has the advantage of starting at 9 am from our hotel, while the group tour starts at 1 pm so it wouldn't get us back in time for the group meeting and walk. Does anyone know of other tours?

I don’t know about tours, but I have visited the Falkirk Wheel and found that it was fairly easy to do by public transportation.

You can take the train to Falkirk. From the train station I have would grab a taxi to take you to the wheel. We enjoyed going on the wheel and for a short canal ride with tickets we purchased on arrival. There was a cafeteria there for lunch.

We chose to take the city bus back to the train station, but a cab would have worked as well. If you don’t mind a little bit of transport “work” you can have an enjoyable day at a much lower cost than the tour mentioned.

Thank you, I'll look at trains etc. The other part of both tours doesn't interest me, it's canals and locks that I love. Were you there on a weekend and did you need to book the boat ride in advance?

While at Falkirk you should also visit the Kelpies, if you have time- at the other end of town.

There are several other threads about how to do this by train via Falkirk High (preferably) or Falkirk Grahamston, then by local bus (run by McGills Scotland East).

You can use the Search function above to find those threads.

I booked with Tartan Tours, Stewart, for mid September. He has very good reviews. We were quoted 280 pounds for three people plus boat tickets if we wanted that. We are doing the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. I know people keep saying it’s so easy to get there, but these are obviously people who are very comfortable with travel and finding their own ways places. I like to go with people who know what they’re doing so I don’t have to worry about all of that.

Thanks for this information, Anne. It did make other cities a lot easier when we booked a tour, so I’ll look into this.
Update, I followed through on this and have booked with Stewart.
