We are taking the Rick Steves Scotland tour in September but are adding an extra 8 days. Spending 3 in Glascow. was planning on 3 in Fort William but accommodation is nearly impossible even with 6 months notice (and very pricey.). we will be depending on bus and rail transport. Suggestions appreciated for other areas of Scotland not on the tour but especially worthwhile visiting. thanks
From GlasGow you could travel to Ayrshire to visit Culzean Castle (President Eisenhower connection) and Alloway - birthplace of Robert Burns.
You could travel to the eastern part of Scotland over here in Aberdeenshire. Lots to see and do for everyone.
You are going to need to be on at the rail hubs. Best thing is look now on where accomodation can be gotten near the stations and work from there.
Go to Visit Scotland's website for advice. Best thing is getting your accomodation booked, and come back for advice. Look toward Aberdeen, Dundee, Perthshire.
What RS tour are you doing??? Wife and I on the Sept. 4. Then couple of weeks on our own.
Look into staying further north near Inverness. you can do some great day trips from there and it's bigger with more options.
