We will be in Oban for just 2 days (arrive 8/5, depart 8/7) and are deciding between the Oban-Mull-Iona tour and the 3-isle tour that includes Staffa. Would we be likely to still see puffins at this time? Even if we did not see puffins, would it still be recommended to include Staffa? We understand that bad weather may play a role as well. Thank you in advance for your advice!
The Staffa trip is outstanding for scenery and wow factor with Fingal’s Cave and the hexagonal rock columns (the same as at the Giant’s Causeway but to me, a more spectacular sight and not over-run.)Even without the puffins, it’s a superb boat trip.
I suspect the puffins will be gone from the island by end of 1st week in Aug but you can always email Staffa Tours and ask nearer the time.Sometimes, a few still ‘hang around’ or they may be on the water.
Thank you for this information. We will book the 3-isle tour and hope we may see a few puffins. Even if we don't, I think we will enjoy this!
