Has anyone takien a tour from Edinburgh to Saint Andrews and toured the parts of the golf course that are open? Anyone take the train up there and do a local tour out of Saint Andrews? Trying to figure out if we could do this all on our own or if anyone knows of a tour company out of Edinburgh? Thank you in advance!
We did a Rabbie's day tour that stopped there. We had plenty of time to check out the course, the gift shop, and then go get some lunch in town.

We were there pre- Covid. At that time the course, which is a public course, was closed on Sundays. So the local guides did colorful walking tours covering most of the course. It was a blustery August day, and I froze, but all part of the fun. Check to make sure this is still the case.
The course is flat at hole #1 and Hole # 18, there are no fences, so you can watch folks tee off (and screw up their shots) and come into #18 green.
There is also a walking path at that point crossing the two fairways, heading to the beach. So once it's clear, you can cross fairways #18 and #1 and go out to the beach, which is beautiful!
The train from Edinburgh is easy, and once in Lewers, there is a city bus that takes you into town. It's a short ride, and the bus stop is right at the golf course. Or- take a taxi from the bus stop.
Don't miss the golf museum behind the Old Course, which has a great Gift Shop.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!
We also took the Rabbies tour and it was great. Plenty of time to walk around the course and have lunch. I remember on the way back we were able to stop for tea in an historic tiny village and back in Edinburgh for early dinner. Well worth it. Be certain they are dropping you off at a good location in Edinburgh. Th second one we took with Rabbies we were dropped off on a corner four blocks from the bus station in the dark and pouring rain. We were on our own to find a taxi or bus. The driver said she had no choice due to some problem with the bus station!! Therefore we will never ever use them again. Just something you should be aware of when booking a tour.
The name of the town where the train from Edinburgh stops is Leuchars, not Lewers. As Pat notes, there is a bus that meets the train so you can make the rest of the journey to St Andrews.
I took the bus from Edinburgh to St Andrews and then explored the town on my own. Highlight was playing the Himalayas Course (putting course) right next to the old course.
@Kim, thanks, I should have doubled - checked first. Thanks for the correction.
Thanks for the info!!!!
It's very easy to take the train to Leuchars and then a bus to St Andrews. Even easier is to take the bus from Edinburgh direct to St Andrews. You don't need a tour company for this trip.
