We are spending a week in Scotland with the first three full days in Edinburgh. My son, 22, really wants to see the Highlands. What would be a reasonable itinerary leaving Edinburgh on Wednesday and getting back to Glasgow Saturday night for an early Sunday flight. I have appreciated the help on this site so much!
What is your son interested in seeing? And are you hiring a car or reliant on public transport?
Look at the Visit Scotland web site for some great ideas. Some times "The Highlands" is presented as "Scotland". It is only part of this country which has many other scenic and significant historical locations. There are parts of the Highlands that are convenient to Glasgow and Edinburgh that may suit your wants. Other great web sites are Historic Scotland and Secret Scotland.
When I was in Edinburgh I found a travel agency and booked 3 days trip to Highlands. I don't remember the price but it was affordable, transportation, accommodation and breakfast included. And a guide. It would be hard to see all that on your own.
