Edinburgh to East Wemyss

I would like to visit MacDuff castle in Kirkcaldy. I know that I can take the train to the Markinch station from Edinburgh.
Is anyone familiar with the transportation that is available from the station? It appears to be a 10 minute drive to the car park near the castle.
Most of our travel is via train- so a car rental would be my last resort.
Any ideas- the more creative the better are most welcome.

Buses 7 and 7a from Dunfermline to East Wemyss every 30 minutes via Dalgety Bay station, Aberdour Station and Kirkcaldy.

Those buses go to Leven so should also serve the new Levenmouth railway station when it opens on 2 June.

Levenmouth will have hourly direct service from Edinburgh.

There is also bus 46 hourly from Kirkcaldy to Dundee via Leven.

Also the X60 slow bus to St Andrews hourly from Edinburgh Bus Station- 90 minute journey. It sets you down at the Primary School, just south of the Castle. That bus also calls into Kirkcaldy on the way.
Those are coach style buses with on board toilet, rather than city buses like the 7 and the 46.

PS- the bus fare is £12.70 single or £7.60 return (that is the right way round) but buy an East Scotland Day Rider for £11.50. That covers all Stagecoach Buses from Edinburgh to Dundee then Perth or even Aberdeen. So after the Castle you could continue to St Andrews via the East Neuk fishing villages then return to Edinburgh on the X61 direct fast bus as an example
