Edinburgh to Amsterdam- which airline

Need some guidance on which airline to fly from Edinburgh to Amsterdam next April 2026. The 2 non stop flight choice are a 9 am flight with KLM or a 10 am flight with EasyJet.

We are 2 ladies in our late sixties and will each be checking a bag. We are staying at the Apex Hotel in Grassmarket and will take a taxi to the airport.

Pro or con of EasyJet vs KLM? I haven’t flown either. Also is getting to airport 2 hours before flight sufficient. Normally I do 3 hrs before international but that seems a bit much. FYI one of us is from USA and the other Australia. We will probably need to go through the new biometric/ fingerprinting thing for Schengen countries when we leave Edinburgh since we are heading to Amsterdam.

Appreciate any feedback. The process of the flights and luggage are about the same. EasyJet is maybe 20 pounds cheaper.

I would say the experience will be about equal (especially for what is such a short flight). I'd be inclined to go with the later one to get an extra hour of sleep if the price is basically the same. Two hours is plenty for airport arrival.

Generally speaking, there is probably not a wrong answer. But one thought to consider is, if your flight got delayed/cancelled for any reason, how soon could you potentially get on another plane with that airline? I don't know your specific dates, but I plugged that route into both KLM and EasyJet for a random weekday in April. It's showing 4 flights a day (very early morning, morning, early and late afternoon) from EDI-AMS on KLM, but only two, mid-morning and evening, for EasyJet, so you'd miss much of the day if you had to re-book (caveat to say that I'm less familiar with European booking policies, so I don't know if there would be the option to rebook on a different airline than what your original ticket was on).

No, you will do this when you arrive in Amsterdam, not when you leave Edinburgh.
I always find it best to follow the instructions of the airport as to how far in advance you should arrive.

Good point about how many flights each airline has per day. We are flying out at April 30th. Both airlines have a late afternoon nonstop flight.

I do like the timing of the 10 am flight since we don’t have to leave as early to get to the airport. But feel like KLM might have better service at the airport if there are any issues.

Good to know that we do the new screening on arrival in Amsterdam. I had read a bunch of information about it but couldn’t figure out if we did it on departure or arrival. I am actually flying to Brussells In Dec 2025 and wonder iif they have rolled it out there yet. I read that they are slowly implementing it at some airports now.

Thanks everyone for the information.
