Edinburgh or Glasgow airport departure to Paris?

I have seen some very concerning reviews about the efficiency, security, cleanliness, and operations at both Edinburgh and Glasgow airport for departures. Has anyone departed from either of these airports recently? What was your experience? How many hours prior to departure should one arrive?

We are leaving Scotland for Paris - any other tips/routes to make that trip without leaving out of Edinburgh or Glasgow airports?

You can take the train with one change in London.

Those airports will be fine. All airports are pretty horrible these days with all the queues, too many people and arduous security. Edinburgh and Glasgow will be no worse than anywhere else. People only leave reviews of airports when they feel particularly aggrieved.

I would have to ask why on earth are you looking at reviews of airports?

Have you looked at reviews of your own home airport?

Both GLA and EDI are single terminal, relatively small and easy to navigate airports.

If you must fly, rather than take the train, look at Newcastle Airport, about 1hr 30 minutes down the East Coast Railway line, easy to reach on the Tyne and Wear Metro (light rail) from Central Station.

That is another regional airport- single terminal and pride of North East England.

We used Glasgow airport last April and sailed through.

Both airports are absolutely fine! They are relatively small airports with unusually problems to make them any worse than any other airport. The absolute worst airport departure experience I ever had was Denver where the security line snaked around for more than 2 hours!

Here to testify that I departed from EDI last year and survived. ;)

The worst part was security, which was crowded and rather disorganized and a bit confusing for someone unfamiliar with the airport: Put your belongings in a bin over here, and then turn around and retrieve them from a conveyor belt on the other side of the room. And the woman in charge was yelling at us like a prison matron welcoming new convicts. lol

But once I got through that, I had no complaints and thought the airport itself was comfortable and perfectly fine.

For an international flight (e.g., Scotland to France), you should arrive 3 hours in advance. It might take significantly less time to get through check-in, security, etc., but it's better to have time to kill than to be cutting it close.

Thank you all for your information. Correct, all airports can be a challenge these days. I thought 3 hours was about right, and will certainly give us enough time to transit.
