Edinburgh - National Library of Scotland

Has anyone visited the NLS? I love visiting libraries and their treasures - so I imagine there must be wonderful treasures here?

Thanks!

Inside the main doors and to the right is a small museum. https://www.nls.uk/treasures/.

One exhibit that really drew our attention was a display about the Battle of Culloden. The display included a hand drawn map by a French Officer was at the battle, and also a deck of playing cards that a Jacobite Officer used to write his diary on while he was on the run while protecting Prince Charlie.

Allan, thanks! I read one of your posts, which is why I discovered this!

Oh, that’s poignant…and something I’d love to see

Thanks!

it is a fascinating visit, although the museum is small. However, it is 200 metres from the National Museum of Scotland so those to can be combined very easily.

Thanks for asking, Betsy!

Holyroodhouse Palace which I have never managed to visit on previous trips. I'm packing my hiking shoes for Arthur's Seat if the weather gives me dry days. Perhaps a stroll along Water of Leith to the Royal Yacht. Most of the popular museums and Castle I've visited at least once, so I will see what I feel like doing on my remaining day. Time is always too short!!

Because the National Library is open later, it will fit in nicely after some of the other places close.

Wonderful, ORD

I’m also going to Holyrood Palace - so excited about it

Also:

National Museum of Scotland
National Gallery - Portrait
*there’s an exhibit on King James VI/I, which looks great

Gladstone’s Land
The Georgian House

Britannia
Calton Hill

Real Mary King’s Close
3 Bridges’s Cruise

Botanical Garden if possible

I HOPE I can squeeze in a visit to the library, lol
