It’s been years now, but I got to ring in the New Years at the Tron. A piper brings in the new year The place was so packed with revelers it was hot on a cold night or maybe that was the whiskey. if memory serves me right, the pubs on the Royal Mile close early and most of the folks BYOB.

I think that the NYE fireworks etc is a ticketed event, with restricted access to the city centre.

They take Christmas and Boxing Day closures seriously, so ensure you check restaurant and activity opening times into account for that week. An aparthotel (and there are relatively easy to find in Edinburgh) could help fill the meal gaps.
