Edinburgh hotels with Family rooms?

Planning our second month-long UK vacation. Spent last May in England and Wales. This time, we are planning on spending several days in Edinburgh at the end of May 2014, after driving up from London, via Cornwall an other English places, en route.

So............

My husband is 6'6", our son is 6'1" and I am the munchkin at 5'2".

Obviously, we need a room with two QUEEN-sized beds, OR a room with (1) Queen bed and one single (or, sofa-bed).

The guys can share the bed and I can sleep on the fold-out (we did this last year and it was fine).

We plan on dropping our car off at Waverley (the train station), so we want something close as we will be walking to our hotel (we are doing carry-on-sized bags only, so they won't be too heavy or big). We plan on taking the train back to London.

Any suggestions & recommendations of hotels that would match our needs and location would be greatly appreciated!

TIA --- Leslie

My daughter and I stayed here at Elderfields Guesthouse a couple of years ago. This is a lovely B&B that serves a great breakfast and is well located. The prices are right and it is about a 5 min. walk or so from the end of the Royal Mile. The owner, Maureen was the nicest hostess. The house is beautifully decorated period style and they have a triple room as well as doubles and a single. So you have your choice. The house looks directly out onto Arthurs Seat and is in a quiet residential neighborhood. Stores are a few min. away, as are buses. We took the bus here from the airport, but when we went back, we walked to Waverly and bused back to the airport from there.

I'm actually looking for a triple room in Edinburgh as well - for September. I checked out the Elderfields website. They don't have any photos of the rooms, and not a lot of info. Ms. Jo: can you please tell me if the rooms have ensuite bathrooms?
Thanks very much,

I've stayed at the Inverleith Hotel in Edinburgh. It's not far from the Royal Botanic Gardens and a short bus ride up to Prince's St. or the The Royal Mile and an easy walk back down the hill in the afternoon. They have 2 Family Rooms and they have self-catering apartment.

Also, go to VisitScotland's Accommodation search page. Enter three adults and family room and you'll find some more suggestions. When I searched just on hotel I got 12 options.

Our family stayed at the Mingalar Guest House and it met our needs quite well. It is about a 15 minute walk from Waverly Station. Clive is extremely knowlegable on the goings on in Edinburgh.

All is well: we found a family room (king bed with sofa bed) at the Travelodge Central Waterloo Place. Looks like walking distance to Waverley (we're taking the train back to London).

Thank you, so very much, for all your replies!

UK, here we come!
