We just decided to use some leftover airline covid credit and fly to Edinburgh December 12th for 3-4 nights before heading to London. I've ordered the Rick Steves Scottland book but am anxious to get something booked given that it's the holidays. We have found great places in his books. Can anyone suggest a place in the Old Town? We can handle stairs, just want a clean room in a good location at a price point hopefully of 100 pounds. Any suggestions.
Thanks
I stayed at the Linton apartments on North Bridge between Waverly station and the royal mile. To get there from the station, you have to go up lots of stairs or take the long way around to avoid steps. But it’s well located near restaurants (recommend Arcade Bar if you want to try haggis) and there are grocery stores down the street. You get a passcode for the exterior door and for the apartment so no carrying a key. A couple apartments are on the third floor off the elevator and the rest require going up another flight of stairs. I found it to be comfortable and quiet, and staff can be called if you need anything. Only thing is I can’t remember the price exactly (maybe $150?), but I went in June so should be cheaper in early December.
This summer I stayed at both 53 Frederick Street and the hub by Premiere Inn Royal Mile. Very different but both good for different reasons. I also stayed at Highfield House which was absolutely lovely but further out and less convenient.
I've stayed at quite a few regular Premier Inns and been very happy with them, but I've read that the position of the bed in at least some Hub rooms requires one person to crawl over the other when getting in and out of bed. Check carefully to be sure the particular room layout you'd be getting would work for you.
We didn't stay at this one, but we did in Glasgow and were surprised, especially for the cost. It's a couple of blocks uphill to the Royal Mile and right across from the train station.

Not really in Old Town, but still in a very good location. It is a hotel named B + B Edinburgh. We've stayed there several times and have always been pleased. It's within walking distance of the tram line from the airport (let me know if you need details) and we did not find the location to have any drawbacks at all. We were able to use the tram and shoe leather to get everywhere we wanted to go.
thank you everyone
