Edinburgh Guest House Endorsemend

We just returned from our first trip to Scotland, beginning in Edinburgh. Based on Rick Steves' advice, we stayed at 23 Mayfield Guest House. It was exactly as described and should not be missed. Beautifully appointed, professionally run, with a gourmet breakfast every morning, and quiet nights for sleeping, this was our home base for our four days in the city. Conveniently located on bus lines, with a direct phone line to the city taxi, we were able to reach all our desired sights easily. Ross is an Edinburgh native, so he was a valuable source of advice as we planned our days. Loved it!

Were you able to walk to the Royal Mile? And other sites in Edinburgh? Or did you have to take buses and taxis?
Thanks!

How much? Asking for those of us on a budget flying steerage and bringing sandwiches on the plane.

A gourmet breakfast for me is fried deer, eggs from our chickens, and biscuits loaded with honey and butter.

I'm 5'11", 168 pounds, 62 years old, run 5 miles per day, and hit the weights in-between teaching, coaching, and chores. Never slow down, never grow old. It's working so far, my friends.

About the Royal Mile: The best way to enjoy this part of Edinburgh is to hop on one of the buses that stop (frequently) right in front of the guest house, because it's a 25 minute walk. The bus costs GBP 1.80 per person or you can purchase a day pass for GPB 4.50, which allows you to ride the city buses for that day.

About the rooming cost: It costs GBP 160.00 per night, but you can take 10% off if you pay in cash. Breakfast includes coffee/tea, fresh juice, various pastries and/or yogurt, a main course such as eggs every way, meats, and always a special entree.
