Edinburgh Castle audio guides

I'm wondering if it's possible to rent one audioguide, and use our own splitter so that two people can listen at once. Rick had recommended that in some other spots, and it worked great, but I'm not sure if it will work at EC. We're travelling with university students who are pinching pennies, so every little bit helps!
Can anyone advise?
Thank you!

There is almost always a free tour with a guide. That's always one option. Also, you might look for an app. I can't figure out the price of the audio tour. I don't about the quality of the apps, but it might work.

I just noticed that there is a new RS Royal Mile Audio tour that you can down load for free. Students should download before their trip.

See http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/plan/getting-around for info on the free tour that Pamela mentioned. The photo online shows headphones with the audioguides, so those probably have a standard headphone jack. Since we can't give you a firm answer, and if you wanted to book the audioguides in advance, you might email your question directly to the castle staff.
